Red ginger, this plant has the Latin name Zingiber officinale, rubrum variety, is a type of rhizome plant that is well known for its use as a medicinal ingredient and spice plant. The rhizome has a finger shape and swells between the middle segments. The red ginger plant contains essential oils and has a spicy taste due to the presence of a ketone compound called zingerone.
