DRAGON FRUIT
The Dragon Fruit
The morphology of the dragon fruit plant consists of roots, stems, thorns, flowers and fruit. Dragon fruit root is just a fibrous root that develops in the soil on the upper stem as a hanging root. The roots grow along the stem at the dorsal fin at the corner of the stem. On the thorns, a flower will grow that looks like a Wijayakusuma Flower. Flowers that do not fall off develop into fruit. Dragon fruit is round, slightly oval in shape, the size of an avocado. The skin of the fruit is bright red for white and red dragon fruit, dark red for black dragon fruit, and yellow for yellow dragon fruit. All over the skin is filled with frills which are analogous to dragon scales. Therefore, this fruit is called Dragon Fruit.
The stem is triangular, the spines are very short and inconspicuous, so it is often considered "spineless cactus". The flowers bloom in the early evening when the flower buds are about 30 cm in size. The outer flower crown, which is cream in color, blooms at around nine in the evening, then is followed by a pure white inner crown, which includes a number of yellow stamens. Flowers such as funnel will eventually fully open at midnight, because the dragon fruit is known as a night blooming cereus. When in full bloom, dragon fruit spreads a fragrant smell. This scent attracts bats to pollinate dragon fruit flowers.
